Testimonial– Jamie

My name is Jamie. I am the third of four sisters. All my life I have loved animals– dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, and best of all, horses. It started when I was four years old. My parents put my sisters and I on a horse to take a photo, and that was the start of my love affair with horses. As I grew older I developed a nasty temper which my sisters were often on the receiving end of. They were all so talented! Each of them could sing, act, play instruments, and swim better than I could. All of them were also better than I was with school. My parents constantly compared me to them. The more this happened, the angrier I became with my sisters.

When I was in the 7th grade my parents finally bought me a horse, as a final effort to get me under control. She was a 6 month old bay American Saddlehorse | Clydesdale cross with black markings. I fell in love with her at first sight. She became my closest friend and companion. She would listen when I talked and be there to cry upon when I needed to. She helped teach me to control my temper and find peace with my sisters. My parents said, if my interest lasted, they would breed her to an Arabian when she was 5 years old. They did not think that my interest would last that long, but they could not have been more wrong. That mare was my touchstone that kept me balanced and so happy that I stopped minding when my parents asked me why I could not be like my sisters. It did not matter anymore. I named her Noboy after a friend of my dad. When she was 5 years old, my parents kept their promise and bred her to an Arabian stud. Eleven months later she gave birth to a beautiful bay colt that I named Fitzer, who turned gray by the time he was 6 months old.

two horses, a mom and baby

Noboy and Fitzer were the first of four horses in my life. The latest two were both American Quarter Horses. They are all gone now, but they were each a rock that I leaned upon when things were tough. I miss them so very much. Life does go on, and with so many more horses needing good homes I have plans to adopt a young horse soon. Being without a horse is like missing a part of myself. I am looking forward to having a new friend and rock to lean on for many years to come.
